Lights, cameras, award nominations for films made with your help
A diverse group of films made with the support of National Lottery funding has been nominated for awards at this year’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.
Leading the way, with 3 nominations, including Outstanding British Film, is the coming-of-age drama How To Have Sex (pictured).
Molly Manning Walker, who wrote and directed the film, is nominated for Outstanding British Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer and her film is also in the running for the Best Casting.
Rye Lane (pictured top), a south London-set romance directed by Raine Allen-Miller, is also competing in the Outstanding British Film category.
The film’s lead, Vivian Oparah, is nominated for Best Actress.
Two other films in the running for Outstanding British Film, are The Old Oak by veteran filmmaker Ken Loach, and Scrapper (pictured), the debut feature film from writer-director Charlotte Regan.
A pair of documentaries funded via the BFI’s Doc Society Fund – an initiative supported by The National Lottery – are also included on this year’s list of BAFTA nominations.
Vying for honours in the Best British Animated Short category are 2 more films made with the support of The National Lottery. Wild Summon is a natural history fantasy film following the life cycle of wild salmon in human form, and Visible Mending explores the beneficial effects of knitting on the human brain.
The winners of this year’s BAFTAs will be announced on 18th February 2024.
